New, Hi Res images

Images of a living insect after emerging from the Red Admiral rearing project. This butterfly emerged in May, 2004. It happily posed for a number of pictures in the front yard as it hardened its wings. After a short while it flew off, never to be seen again. Hopefully it didn't wind-up being some bird or spider's lunch that afternoon!

This Red Admiral was photographed on 3-6-2005, hilltopping after a rainstorm. It was so busy chasing other butterflies from its territory that it didn't seem to notice I was standing right in the middle of it, and it even landed landed on the plastic bag I had hooked to my belt!
